I noticed a grey crusty lump on my dog's ear a few days ago. It doesn't appear to be growing nor giving him any trouble. He is not scratching it and his behaviour hasn't changed at all. Though I am a little worried it may be a tumour

Any ideas? Picture attached

Thanks in advance

Hello, thanks for posting pictures! There are so many things that can be going on when dogs present with bumps. A bump like that can be a benign hair follicle cyst, a benign oil gland cyst an adenoma (benign) or a skin tag, but as you mention, it can also be something concerning such as a mast cell tumor, also known as the "great imitator" because it can sometimes look like anything, or a soft tissue sarcoma. It can also be a bug bite and that's a scab that may come off with time, but the only way to know for sure is to see your vet. Your vet can do a fine needle aspiration (a quick procedure that collects a small sample of fluid that is sent off to a lab with results coming back in 3-4 days) to check out what it is. A fine needle aspiration doesn't need anesthesia in most cases, and it can be fairly inexpensive. Depending on what it is, your vet may recommend to keep an eye on it, do a round of antibiotics and see if it shrinks or perform surgical removal.
