Enlarged nipple and lump

My Dog has had a large nipple for about 5 years now but it has been getting bigger and bigger.

At first I thought it was just that she had a bigger nipple and I wasn't sure but i realize that it has been getting bigger.

I don't have money for a vet and I will do what I can to get her to one but for now please help me and give a diagnosis if you can.

She's my Dad's dog and someone suggested we should use thread to make the lump smaller periodically until it falls off, but to me this sounds dumb and this person is not very knowledgeable.

If it has to be removed, is it a difficult procedure for a vet?

Please provide some insight.

Thank you so much

Thanks for taking the time for posting pictures. There's really no way to know what this is and even if a vet would see this, he/she would have to do a biopsy to determine what it is. It doesn't necessarily have to be cancer, it could be a benign growth too. As with lumps in women's breast, there's no way to know until a biopsy is done this may entail just suctioning a sample with a hollow need (fine needle aspiration) or if the vet is concerned about it, he/she may suggest removing it. The advise of using thread as you mention is not good at all, I wouldn't want that done to me if I had a lump, yet alone to my beloved dog. You can try to call care credit for aid if money is an issue.

Hello, there can be various causes for such types of swelling and as meba has pointed out, to know for sure your vet will have to take a look and do a needle biopsy. This procedure is quite easy, the sample is then sent to a lab to see if there are any suspicious cells. The surgery should not be difficult at all for a vet, all they must do is cut the area and send it to be biopsied. I would not do the thread think as you may risk complications. At the most, I would try warm water compresses to try to reduce swelling, but that may only help if there's an abscess or infection.
