Kidney disease

Any members ever have an aging dog with kidney disease? We are going through it now. Angel went from a very active, healthy dog- (she turns 13 on the 29th of this month.) to a very sick dog in just a week. Started out as a painful back- we were told severe spinal arthritis- shocking - she still took us for walks and would run through the house. Started vomiting- went into the hospital and we were told she has kidney disease. We are still reeling .
She is finally eating a bit of chicken but will not touch the special diet food or even her old diet( nupro max senior).
She is comfortable but listless. I guess we just try and keep her as comfortable as possible till she cannot be helped. i feel that she will not see another summer.
I would like to hear from anybody that has gone through similar issues.

Sorry to hear about your 13 year old dog. Was your dog diagnosed with acute or chronic kidney disease? Did they find a cause? My dog was diagnosed with the chronic version at about 14 years old. She was on aggressive fluid therapy and prescribed a kidney diet and her condition improved. When her appetite was poor we fed her steak or chicken breast. She did go through some periods were she didn't want to eat and our vet prescribed anti-nausea medication which helped. The nausea was explained to use was due to the toxins in her body. This website provides a wealth of information and has helped us during those tough times.
