My sheltie has bumps on his paw
Hi everyone,
I just noticed that my 9 year old sheltie has these little white/pinkish bumps on the side of his paw. They look like mini cysts almost, and I am scared it could be something worse. His behavior is normal.
How long has your dog had these? Any chances there are red ants in your yard? Did your dog lick the area or did it seems to bother him at first and now not? Looking at the area, just wondering as little critters tend to bite paws when dogs walk on them and this is red ant season. To play it safe, your dog should see the vet to be sure, but I wouldn't be overly concerned even though it's hard not to be when our furbabies are affected! My dog got attacked by fire ants and the bumps on his paws took a very log time to heal!
If you mention cysts, I am guessing they look like they're filled with fluid and feel squishy when you touch them. Bug bites come to my mind too, but cysts may also appear on paws at times.
If you take your dog to your vet, he/she may drain them and take a sample to better know what they are. Some dogs may also get bumps like that when they develop contact dermatitis from walking on surfaces that irritate their paws.
Also, with the hot weather, hot asphalt may cause blisters on paws, any chances your dog walked on hot pavement? I can't tell from the picture if the bumps are on the paws pads or sides. Anyhow, best to check them out for peace of mind.
