I am guessing that your vet would need to do an ultrasound to find out more and see what is causing it. I had dogs with murmurs who acted as if nothing was ever wrong with them, and then had dogs who needed to take lasix or enalapril to keep things under control. The medications were very helpful.
Meba,
Thank you for the kind advice. The vet told us the heart murmur is significant and would be a valve not functioning properly, resulting in blood not flowing properly from the lungs. We have a return appointment in 2 weeks and I will ask about an ultrasound and a specific grade of the heart murmur. I'll also ask about lasix or enalapril.
In 2 weeks when we know more I may create a new thread in the dog heart problems section of this forum.
